The Director’s Corner July 2008

July and August, this is the peak riding time for many and it is also the time when Runs and Events start filling every available weekend.  Many of you will be faced with choices.  Several items to keep in mind.

1.  You cannot do everything....  do what you can, keeping in mind your Mission Statement and focus first on POW/MIA and Veterans events.  When you have choices, those should come first when practical

2.  Consider splitting into smaller groups and attending 2 functions of equal importance to the mission.  That shows both support and also gets your group in front of more people for awareness.

3.  Don't be afraid to say no.  It is better than burning out your people.  When you must, make them aware how far in advance you plan and that you already had commitments.

4.  Lastly, be SAFE out there, whether riding alone or with your chapter.

Remember also the upcoming elections in your chapter.  Please take the nominations and elections serious, this will be the team that directs YOUR chapter for the next 2 years.

Never forget our POW's and MIA's and keep those serving today in your thoughts and prayers.

When one American is not worth the effort to be found, we as Americans, have Lost.

WEEKLY POW/MIA VIGIL - MEREDITH NH

Every Thursday evening starting at 7:00 p.m. people gather in Hesky Park, located in Meredith, New Hampshire The Thursday evening Vigils started in August of 1989 in an effort to raise awareness about the abandonment of Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action. The first Vigil lasted 15 minutes; one minute to symbolize each year since the US State Department declared, "There are no more prisoners in Southeast Asia.  They are all dead."  The vigil now spans 32 minutes.

The Meredith POW/MIA Vigil is believed to be the longest consecutively-held vigil in the United States.  There has never been a Thursday night Vigil unattended since its inception. Vigil goers have weathered rain, sleet, snow, hail, thunder, lightning, and even temperatures of -37 degrees Fahrenheit.

MONTHLY POW/MIA VIGIL - MANCHESTER NH

Just want to let everyone know that there is a monthly POW/MIA Vigil held in Manchester NH on the 1st Wednesday of every month.  This is usually the day after our meeting.  It is held at Veterans Park on Elm Street.  Currently it's a small group and hopefully it will grow to help keep the word out there.  Please try and attend if you can, it is what we are about!
